Year 6 Forest School
In year 6's sessions all of the children have had the opportunity to learn fire lighting and have very much enjoyed the campfire. Their skills are developing and many children are independently making dens using their knot skills. We based some activities this week on the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy. The children worked well in teams, with some identifying the challenges that faced them in deciding who to work with, sharing ideas, agreeing and not taking control.
Rhinos session was focussed around the knots and fire. We started the session with a fun game of Hunter, Fox and Mouse to warm everyone up and then sat down under the tarp canopy to get to grips with some new knots. The children worked well and persevered, despite the challenge and many were able to tie a clove hitch and use square lashing to secure two sticks together. During choice time, some children went on to use their knot skills to create mobiles and picture frames, others chose to build tarp dens in groups, whittling pegs, making charcoal pencils and creating prints using the hapa zome technique.
